Be prepared...Be very prepared

This Friday (May 14) I will be giving a talk to the 1st Fatfield Scout Group on "surviving in alien worlds" - of which I know quite a lot about, thanks to Ray Mears, Bear Grylls and Ms Hummingbird, the psychotic survival expert, sports teacher, amateur flautist and part-time post woman on Virporta Island. I was a a scout for many year (sadly no pictures of me in my uniform have survived ) and I'll be interested to see the stories the Fatfield scouts put together to win their Creativity Badge - and I'll post them here when they're done. They didn't have a Creativity Badge when I was a scout, but I did have the knot making badge...

I have been extraordinarily busy lately, and, if I'm honest, a bit stuck on Super Maxwell and the Isle of the Dead. I know what happens to Maxwell and Billy on the Isle of the Dead, and I know how Billy gets to the Isle of the Dead ... But how on Earth (or the 101 Realms) could Maxwell defeat the Goregoths and Trogoths if an army of 20,000 warriors couldn't?
Then I remembered the legend of the Phoenician prince Cadmus, whose story is closely linked with the legend of Jason of Argo ... And if you've read Super Maxwell and the Burning Boys you know what happened to Jason.
Got it! - now "Second to the right, and straight on till morning."

It's all about Time

The Doctor and his assistant Amy Pond visited Sunderland this week (March 30) - he came, he saw, and he hopped back into his Tardis. Happily all of my team's hard work was appreciated by the kids of Sunderland who got to see the new episode, The Eleventh Hour, a week before the rest of England. I didn't - I was outside chatting with the Weeping Angel!
Now - back to Maxwell Jones!

Doctor....?

Sorry, everyone, for not writing anything for a while. Maxwell 3 is on slight hiatus (in the words of The Simpsons "In hiatus for retooling") while I have been focusing on arranging a visit by Dr Who to Sunderland...pics tomorrow!!!
In my world I will begin writing Max again next week and posting some stuff here and on Twitter (I'm @virporta)

New pupils named for the Watchmen Academy

Congratulations to the winners of the Sunderland Echo Chipper Club competition to win a copy of Super Maxwell and the Burning Boys, and to appear as a character in the next Maxwell book, The Isle of the Dead.
The overall winner was Ross Bartlam (signed copy of the Burning Boys), with runners up Baillee Louise Gough, Lewis Vickerson, Beth Haley, Kaenan Beckwith all winning signed, limited edition Super Maxwell bookmarks. All five of them have now had their names signed up for next term at the Watchmen Academy - I hope the Goregoths don't catch them!
